Amazon.com Review
The Chambord is Bodum’s original coffee press design, which the company began to mass produce in 1982 after acquiring a small factory in Normandy where craftspeople made these presses by hand. Bodum takes great care to instill the same quality in craftsmanship, and the result, according to coffee purists, is a brewing machine that produces a taste and aroma superior to any electric coffeemaker. The secret is that the grounds are able to steep in boiling water for about 4 minutes before they are pressed with the plunger, producing a richer, full-bodied flavor. The glass carafe on this Chambord model holds a maximum of 48 ounces or 12 cups of brewed coffee or tea, making it a useful size for entertaining or for all-day-long drinkers. The chrome-plated brass frame and lid and stainless-steel plunger are durable and will hold up to years of brewing. For easy cleaning, the carafe and all its parts go right into the dishwasher. Replacement parts are available from the manufacturer. --Cristina Vaamonde

Much better than drip brewers5
We were buying whole beans at Peets, using a burr grinder on a daily basis and a quality Cuisinart drip brewer but something was missing. It seemed as if the different roasts always tasted the same when served. A Peets employee suggested the Bodum French Press and it truely makes a huge difference. Each of those roasts or blends now has its own unique flavor and aroma.
It is a little less convenient than your drip machine, but if you are paying $11-$14 for a pound of whole beans, you are already committed to the best cup possible. On the other h

Great French Press5
Love this large French Press. Large size makes getting 3+ 12 OZ cups a snap. Size really better than the 32 OZ we used before. Don't run out of coffee or don't have to fill to the very top like before.

It works well and have nothing bad to say. Would buy again immediately if I happen to break it.

Amazon.com Review
Serious coffee lovers agree that the best way to brew everyone's favorite stimulant is also the simplest and quickest. The French press method prevents scorching of the beans, and because there's no filter involved, all of the flavorful oils stay in your drink. Simply measure out one rounded tablespoon of coarse ground per 4-ounce cup, pour very hot (not boiling) water over it, let the contents brew for at least 4 minutes, then slowly depress the plunger. The result is one of the richest cups of java you'll ever taste. This attractively designed Bodum press is the perfect size for one person's morning fix. Because the carafe is glass, it's best to use a little care when handling the press in the sink--but if it should break, don't panic: Bodum offers replacement parts. --Mary Park

Excellant Coffee Maker5
When my daughter told me she was in the market for a Fench Press coffee maker, my reaction was HUH? I had never heard on it. She said A French Press was the only was to make coffee. I took her word for it and ordered two Bodum 12 ounce presses, one for her and one for me.

When the shipment came we quickly open the package and made coffee! What a treat. THe Bodum is exactly as advertised. In less than ten minutes (heating water and brewing) it makes a strong flaverful cup of coffee. IT is simple to use and very easy to clean.

The 12 ounce maker is the perfict size of one mug of coffee.

Highly recommended!

French Press Coffee maker4
This is a great little coffee press, and I do mean little. The only reason that I don't give it 5 stars is because it only makes one "cup" of coffee. By the time you take the grounds into consideration there is only about 8-10 ounces of coffee. This is slightly less than a typical mug. I like it when I only need to make a cup for me, but when I have others, it is just not a solution. Once you have invested the time into grinding the beans. heating the water, waiting for the 3-4 minute brew time, and heating the cream, you may want more coffee. I intend to keep this one, since I often just want one cup of coffee, and buy another one for 4 persons. If you don't already have one, get a burr grinder; fantastic coffee with this and the French press.

Product Description

The French press coffee maker is accepted worldwide as one of the best methods for brewing coffee and our New Kenya coffee press is sure to deliver not only gourmet coffee flavor, but modern design. The durable and heat-resistant glass beaker is partially encased by the black plastic frame of the New Kenya coffee maker. The frame covers a part of the sides and bottom of the beaker, making it safe for the tabletop without using a trivet or coaster. Simple to use, the French press is a proven method for brewing flavorful and balance coffee. Coffee is measured in 4 oz. cups, so our 8-cup press will brew 34 oz., serving three to four people. For best results, use coarse ground coffee. Just add the appropriate amount of ground coffee to the beaker (we recommend one 7 gram scoop per 4 oz. of water). Fill the beaker with hot water (just off of a boil). Leave about an inch from the top of the beaker. Give the coffee a stir with a plastic or wooden utensil to mix it completely with the water. Set the plunger and lid unit in place with the safety lid in the closed position. Allow the coffee to brew for 4-minutes and then press. Turn the safety lid to the open position, serve and enjoy. Clean up is easy too – just scoop out the grounds with a rubber spatula, and rinse the beaker and filter. There is no paper or additional filter required. The 3-part stainless steel filter system is built right into the press. The stay cool handle is built right into the sturdy New Kenya frame. All parts are dishwasher safe. The New Kenya is also available in 3, 4, and 6 cup sizes.

Freshly designed with swooping curves, the black plastic frame on the New Kenya coffee press adds to the anticipation of the morning coffee. And good coffee indeed this press makes. Most aficionados agree that the French press, or plunger, style of coffee maker produces the smoothest cup of joe. Bodum makes the carafe itself of borosilicate glass, the lightweight, heat-resistant kind found in science labs, and the plunger and three-piece filter system of stainless steel. The plastic frame tightly wraps the glass beaker and protects your table from its heat. The lid is also plastic.

Best coffee I ever had!5
These are great. Very smooth flavor and easy to use. This is my 2nd one. One for me one for my wife. I recommend them to anyone who likes coffee.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!5
Wow, I've been missing out. My coffee doesn't taste bitter anymore. Wish my old coffee maker broke a long time ago. Just be really careful of the glass canister. Its delicate.

To make coffee in the New Kenya, put in the glass carafe one scoop of coarse-ground coffee beans per every four ounces of brewed coffee you intend to make. Add nearly-boiling water, stir with a silicone spatula, and place the filter-plunger-lid unit in the top. After four minutes of brewing, slowly press down on the plunger. Pour, and enjoy. Use the same spatula to scrape the grounds out afterward, and rinse out the carafe and assembly. All the parts are dishwasher-safe as well. The largest of the New Kenya presses, this size makes 34 ounces of coffee, which fills approximately three mugs or eight four-ounce after-dinner cups. --Ann Bieri

Bodum 1924-16 Chambord French Press Coffee Maker with Metal Lid. 4 cup (2 US cup)

Editorial Reviews

From the Manufacturer
When Bodum took over a small clarinet factory in Normandy in 1982, it was not because of the fine orchestra clarinets they were producing. In addition to musical instruments, the factory also produced the coffee of a relatively unknown brewer called "The Chambord." Bodum combined the skills of these Normandy craftspeople with modern production. The result was a unique culinary tool, affordable to the many who loved the taste of what we now know as French press coffee.

Thanks to Bodum, and thanks to the increasing need for better coffee, the French press coffeemaker has become one of the most popular in the world. Yet the design has not strayed a bit from the original drawings, and Bodum still makes the Chambord with the same painstaking care and knowledge they gained from those Normandy craftspeople years ago. The ease of brewing and the delicious smell and taste of French-roasted dark coffee have remained unchanged.

Great Product - Just Wish It Wasn't Breakable!5
This was the 2nd coffee press for me. The first one was bought over 5 years ago and I broke the beaker last year. I searched all over to find a replacement beaker, which I finally found at Starbucks for $15, and then broke the second beaker last month. I ordered the complete product (w/s&H) for less than $20 via Amazon and couldn't be happier. We use it every day.

Best coffee ever!5
Ditch your drip and percolated coffee makers. You'll get the best cup of coffee you've ever tasted from this product. It's quick, simple, and the coffee is delicious. This way of making a good cup of coffee has always been an old standby in Europe and for good reason. Europeans don't put up with bad tasting coffee.

Reeeeeally Good Coffee!5
This is the best way to brew a really great cup of coffee. No oxidation means bold flavor without any bitterness. Much less trouble and mess than a coffee maker if you only want a cup or two.
